Namira Salim is the Founder and Chairperson of Space Trust. She is internationally renowned as the first future Space Tourist from South Asia and Monaco to go to space aboard Virgin Galactic –the first private space-line of the world. Sir Richard Branson, Chairman Virgin Group, personally introduced Namira to the world press in Dubai in 2006, as one of the earliest Founders of Virgin Galactic.

In 2005, she was one of the founding members of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic commercial space liner and was announced as one of the shortlisted space tourists from over 44,000 candidates. Subsequently, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting called her the country’s “first astronaut” in 2006.

Salim launched Space Trust, a non-profit, in 2015 to promote peace through space travel. She believes that “space tourism” can be a game-changer in terms of spreading peace among nations and helping more people achieve their dream of flying among the stars.

Born and raised in Karachi, Salim completed her studies in international business and international affairs from Hofstra University and Columbia University, respectively. She returned to Pakistan to become the founding president of the nation’s first International Association of Students in Economics and Business Management, a cultural exchange program that works with the United Nations.

In addition to her achievements in the region of space travel development, she has also promoted the United Nations. Salim has designed collections of jewelry, sold under the brand Namira Monaco. In May 2002 she held a solo exhibit of jeweled objects called “Peace Making with Nation Souls” as an official supporting event to the UN General Assembly Special Session for Children. Moreover, in October 2000, she exhibited solo at UNESCO’s Executive Board under the theme Peace & Soul.

Her accolades include the Namira the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence), conferred on her by the President of Pakistan, as well as the Power 100 Trailblazer Award by Pakistan Power 100 in London in September 2013 for her efforts to promote international peace and harmony.
